We were honoured to welcome over 370 delegates to Santiago to the I International Congress on Water Management in the Mining Industry. WIM 2008 is the first of a series of international conferences on sustainable water management initiated this year by Gecamin Ltd., Santiago-based mining events producer.
Delegates from 16 countries (Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Bolivia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Czech Republic, Germany, Italy, Mexico, Peru, South Africa, Spain, Switzerland and USA) representing 26 universities/research centres, 40 mining and 53 engineering/consulting companies participated in the congress.
WIM 2008 has fulfilled its objectives of international knowledge exchange, bringing together professionals from different backgrounds who shared their ideas and experiences, discussed innovations and recent developments in supply and management of water in mining operations.
During the three days of the WIM 2008 congress, delegates had the opportunity to hear 45 presentations attempting to answer crucial questions on how to face the challenges and manage water issues in a responsible and efficient way. Vast majority of the presented articles were published in the proceedings.
We greatly appreciate the hard work of all the authors and thank them for their effort and invaluable contributions. We also extend our sincere gratitude to all the delegates, sponsors and the committee members, who supported this event with such enthusiasm. All of you contributed to the Congress’s great success.
